What If You Could Change Your Face into That of Another Animal?
MakeBeliefs 2 Help U Smile & Lift Your Spirits
Here’s the latest installment in our Make Beliefs Series created to provide comfort and hope to young and old who are feeling distressed and anxious in our too fast-changing and sometimes unforgiving world. It’s our way of making things better by helping you imagine! I created these MakeBeliefs to find hope. If you find value in the MakeBeliefs project, please share this newsletter with someone you care about.

Fashion designers use their rich imaginations to conceive of new clothing collections for the different seasons and for how they present their clothing to the public with the help of models.
In reading The New York Times article by Vanessa Friedman I was visually struck by these models who had their faces changed into those of different animals and who modeled new Collina Strada collection unveiled for New York Fashion Week.
The show was titled ‘’Please Don’t Eat My Friends,’’ and the models gave in to the inner animals, wearing deer ears, a pig’s snout, a dog’s head, a toucan beak. Each is striking in their own way, and one has to imagine how one would change with such a new face, even if only for a short time.
So here’s your chance, too. Why not take a photo showing yourself from your photo collection, paste it into the blank box shown here, and see what happens when you modify your face with a different nose or set of ears or style of hair? How would you change with your look, including your personality. What animal do you want to look like? I lean to the lion myself, but that’s because I’m a scaredy cat. I wonder what I’d wear.
Now, Make Believe that Once a Year You Could Transform Yourself Completely. How So?
In the previous MakeBeliefs item above, you had the chance to transform your face into a different animal. Now, with this MakeBeliefs asks you go all the way to transform the entire you into something or someone else. This is your big chance to test the waters for becoming a new being. It can be something beautiful, something or someone terrifying, someone or something extraordinary and strange. Just give in to your inner imagination and recreate yourself – but remember, it’s for one day only!
One More Small Transformation
One of my favorite cartoons is Lio, about a boy who loves monsters and other frightening creatures. In some ways, it’s about a boy who can confront all his fears or think up mischievious things so that he can actually overcome his fears. Here’s one in which a squid-like being creature whom Lio loves plays a joke on him and changes something about his face with the help of silly putty. Lio looks into the mirror and is shocked.
Can you imagine being Lio cartoonist Mark Tutulli and having the power and creativity to draw fun, interesting cartoons of all the things that frighten him (is Tutulli really Lio or is Lio really Tutulli?). By using your imagination you can do all kinds of extraordinary things as do Lio and Tutulli.
Which Woman in History Do You Admire?
I know, I know, the answer is probably your mother or grandmother or your great aunt, or a mentor teacher, or someone who always reaches out to help and guide you. They make history in their own way, and there are other women who also make history by being the first to accomplish something amazing or to set a moral example for us to follow. Let's honor them for National Women's History Month. Maybe one day you, too, will be honored. Is there something you want to be the first to accomplish?
See you Saturday!
