Imagine Facing Your Worst Fears?

makebeliefs.substack.com

Here’s the latest installment in our Make Beliefs Series created to provide comfort and hope to young and old who are feeling distressed and anxious in our too fast-changing and sometimes unforgiving world. It’s our way of making things better by helping you imagine! I created these MakeBeliefs to find hope. If you find value in the MakeBeliefs project, please share this newsletter with someone you care about.

I know, I know, it’s Saturday morning, a time for peaceful reflection and not for being scared out of your wits. Yes, this is not necessarily the type of picture you would expect from MakeBeliefsComix.  It may not look uplifting or inspiring as the other pieces in our three weekly newsletters offered three times a week to help you find hope. But hear me out for a moment.

When I saw this (to me, at least) terrifying photo, I tried, as MakeBeliefsComix encourages us to do, to use my imagination and put myself in the position of those shown in the photo. In this case, it is Seminole alligator wrestler Billy Walker as he sticks his hand in an alligator’s mouth after tiring it out.  It was a demonstration as part of a Seminole Tribal Fair and Pow Wow in Florida.

And, I thought to myself, Bill, use your imagination to be there in Mr. Walker’s place.   Could you do what he is doing?  And my answer as a coward was ‘’no,’’ and emphatic, ‘’no.’’   But, for a moment I used my imagination and was in warm Florida engaging with the alligator -- even though I was still safely in my pajamas in my warm, comfy home. By exercising my imagination muscle in viewing the photo, I had taken an adventure – even for a moment.   But I quickly ventured back to my breakfast before the alligator took a bite of it.  Enjoy!  (I don’t know what happened to the alligator wrestler.)

But I do know you can always count on your wonderful imagination to take you to a new place.

We Start the Doodle

and You Finish the Doodle

in the Space Below!

Everyone loves to doodle, whether while we’re on the phone, or just taking atimeout, or making squiggles as we try to come up with new ideas. Our newMakeBeliefsComix Doodler gives you a start with art from Tom Bloom and then it’s your turn to finish the drawing and make it your own in the rectangular space.

We hope you’ll print the template and take your best pen or crayon to complete the picture.

If you like, snap a picture of your masterpiece and share it on Instagram and tag @makebeliefcomix so that we can see your art! We’ll share your work on our account all week.

Please let us know what you think of this new feature.   Did it make your day more fun? Share your doodles with us; send to billz@makebeliefscomix.com

See you next week!
